Dominion maintains a substantial and diverse commitment to quality education. Dominion believes that high-quality education is the key component of economic growth.

To help ensure a strong, successful education system, Dominion is committed to providing the support needed to develop society's most valuable natural resource, our youth.
 

Programs and Resources

  • Dominion Educational Partnership
    Educational grants (up to $10,000) from Dominion and the Dominion Foundation to provide elementary and secondary educators with the tools they need to revitalize math and science programs through the study of energy and the environment.
  • Dominion Higher Educational Partnership
    In the area of post-secondary education, Dominion accepts grant applications, up to $50,000, to encourage the development of programs for post-secondary students, aimed at developing a skilled work force in areas critical to Dominion.
  • Dominion Memorial Scholarship Fund
    The Virginia Tech. shootings on April 16, 2007 tragically claimed the lives of three college students whose parent or grandparent worked for Dominion. In their honor, Dominion offers scholarships for the children or grandchildren of a retired or current, permanent, full-time Dominion employee.
  • Dominion Foundation
    The Foundation has invested more than $9.5 million in educational programs since 1985. 
  • Dominion Leadership Program
    This program prepares Saint Paul's College students to be society's future leaders by developing natural leadership talents through team building exercises, service learning projects and a close examination of the fundamental theories of leadership.
  • Multicultural Calendar
    Our monthly calendar promotes greater knowledge of multicultural diversity. The calendar features selected events and celebrations from different cultures, and also highlights the many cultures of Dominion employees.
  • Project Plant It!
    This program is a community effort to educate children, plant trees and improve the environment. Project Plant It! is a partnership among Dominion, the Arbor Day Foundation and school districts in areas where the company does business.   • Speakers Bureau Program
    Dominion Virginia Power has an experienced group of employee volunteers specially trained to conduct free educational presentations to schools, community groups and civic organizations in its service area.
  • Strong Men & Women: Excellence in Leadership Series
    In this unique program, one of our most popular, Dominion has partnered with the educational community to provide youth with positive role models, African-American men and women whose accomplishments and determination demonstrate true excellence in leadership.
  • Strong Men & Women: Excellence in Leadership -- Teaching Guide
    The teaching guide provides activities for primary and secondary teaching levels along with lesson plans to go with suggested readings from the Strong Men & Women site (above).
  • The Learning Barge
    Dominion is a sponsor of the 120-foot-long Learning Barge, a one-of-a-kind solar and wind-powered floating classroom with a living wetland onboard. Its mission is to teach all ages about environmental stewardship and how the Elizabeth River can be made safe for swimming and eating shellfish by 2020.
  • Tours and Educational Programs
    Learn about public tours offered at Dominion's power stations and facilities. Also, company representatives can present topics to organizations, or give presentations to school groups.
