Pipeline Safety

Pursuant to the Pipeline Safety Improvement Act of 2002, Dominion’s gas transmission and delivery operations have each developed and implemented comprehensive Integrity Management Programs (IMPs).

The goals of the Integrity Management Programs are to improve pipeline safety in the natural gas industry. Dominion’s program requires:

• Ongoing assessments of pipeline integrity,
• Repair and remediation of pipelines as necessary,
• Improved data collection, data integration and data analysis, and
• Attention to "process" as well as "results."

Among the 16 required elements of each Integrity Management Program is the duty to manage the integrity program and associated assessment work in a manner that ensures minimization of environmental risks. Environmental considerations are integrated into integrity management activities as they are planned.
