Energy-Saving Tips for the Holidays

Here are some tips for saving money and energy during the holiday season:

LED lights come in an array of colors for any decorating need.
  • Upgrade your holiday lighting with LED lights. Use our handy calculator to see how much you can save!
  • Use timers on light displays to maximize savings.
  • Don't send precious warm air up the chimney; remember to close your fireplace damper.
  • Save money on that gas-powered snow blower and pay local neighborhood kids to shovel your driveway.
  • Frost on windows may be charming but it's uncomfortable for your home. Cover single-pane windows with plastic film to avoid drafts, install storm windows, or upgrade to double pane to save money for years to come.
  • Unplug video games and turn off the millionth broadcast of The Christmas Story and read a holiday story instead.
  • Don't leave the door open to carolers. Put on a parka and join in the fun outdoors.
  • When shopping for gift wrap, look for recycled paper. And recycle paper after unwrapping gifts.
  • Don't open the oven door to check holiday goodies. Each time you open it, the temperature drops about 25 degrees.
  • When cooking on your stovetop, make sure the size of your pot matches the size of the eye on your burner to reduce wasted heat.
