In the summer of 2008, Dominion initiated nine pilot programs to test new energy efficient measures and customer acceptance. These pilot programs were a vital part of laying the groundwork for even larger conservation initiatives such as our energy conservation programs.
Information about our pilots can be found in the news release and the SCC final order can be viewed online.
The pilot programs achieved success in kWh reduction as well as positive customer acceptance.
In addition to the 9 pilot programs, we launched a CFL discount program beginning in 2007 and ending in 2009 with a partnership from Home Depot.
The program offset the cost to consumers of $1.50 for each individual CFL purchased and $3.00 on multi packs. The program achieved huge success with over 4 million CFLs discounted. This equates to 156,578 cars off the road for one year, 897,975 tons of C02 in air pollution reduction, 1,170,000 kWh in life cycle energy savings, and $168,526,724 in life cycle savings.
While this program came to a conclusion in December 2009, we were approved in 2010 for a residential Lighting Program where customers can save money and energy.
